That is really a long and hard journey from Liuku to Lhasa. There is total 1500 kilometers and the road condition is not very good. I only heard some one driving car through this route. By the way, you need to contact a travel agent to help you get the Tibet Travel Permit.

I want to go there too. They look amazing from the guide book. But I was told they are not open to foreign visitors at present. May I know if you get any further information for that?

Usually the hotels have oxygen tanks in the room. You can pay to buy it if you need it. After you arrive in Lhasa, you’d better spare one day to have a good rest without any activities, to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. Before you enter Tibet, you also need to consult your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to visit there.
In May, the highest temperature is about 15 ℃ and the lowest temperature usually is minus 2 ℃ or 3 ℃. There is a sharp difference during the day time and night, so it’s good to bring some warm clothes.
